Peace Safety & Environmental Training (PS&ET) is owned and operated out of Peace River Alberta, Canada. We have been in the Occupational and Environmental Heath & Safety Training field for the past 15 years offering a variety of safety training courses to Northern Alberta and Northern British Columbia. Ed McCarthy (owner) and Jon Carlson (contract instructor and owner of C&C Safety) have been training students for over 40 years. The goal of (PS&ET) is to offer quality safety training to our clientele. We will not compromise the quality of our safety training as this training could and does mean the difference between life, death or serious injury to the worker.

Standard First Aid

This course provides necessary skills to respond to emergency situations and life support until medical professionals arrive. Upon successful completion individuals will receive certification from St John Ambulance.

Hours in class: 16

Certification: 3 years

Note: The CPR component can be offered as a stand alone course. Level 1 BC and WCB course are also offered.


Emergency First Aid

This course provides individuals with basic first aid skills. The course covers CPR level A, Emergency Management, choking and severe bleeding. Upon successful completion individuals will receive certification from St John Ambulance.

Hours in Class: 8

Certification: 3 years


Wilderness First Aid

This course is designed to assist individuals when facing the special challenges you may encounter in a wilderness setting. It focuses on pre-trip planning, providing shelter, extended care and more. A 3 year certification for "Bear Awareness & Avoidance" is also included with this course. Upon successful completion individuals will receive St John and ASC certification.

Hours in class: 20 hours (in camp)

Certification: 6 years


All-Terrain Vehicle (ATV) Safety

This course provides general safety practices for ATV use. Upon successful completion individuals will receive an Alberta Safety Council Certificate.

Hours in Class: 8 (outdoors instruction)

Certification: 3 years




Automated External Defibrillation

Automated external defibrillation, the application of an electric shock to a heart that has stopped beating, has been proven to be one of the most important tools in saving lives of sudden cardiac arrest casualties. New technology has resulted in machines that are truly portable, safe, easy to use and easy to maintain. As these devices become more popular, and as more students are trained in their use, the survival rate for cardiac arrest with increase dramatically. Graduates of this course will receive St. John's Certification.

Hours in class: 4 - Covers only AED operation

Certification: 3 years

Note: Prospective students are required to have their current CPR certificate to qualify for this course.

Refresher CPR Plus AED

See AED description above. This course involves 2 parts, CPR training followed by AED training.

Certification: Same as AED


Bear Awareness & Avoidance

This course is designed to provide individuals with information on bear avoidance and identification. Upon successful completion individuals will receive certification from the Alberta Safety Council.

Hours in Class: 5 to 7

Certification: 3 years


H2S Alive

This is a PITS certified course. This course prepares students to recognize and identify properties of H2S, protect themselves from its effects and perform basic rescue of others. This is a mandatory course for anyone working where hydrogen sulfide may be a hazard.

Hours in class: 8

Certification: 3 years


H2S Response

This is an STC (Safety Training Center) Course. Suited for the pulp and paper industry and city workers. See H2S Alive for description of this course.

This course meets or exceeds Industry/Government Safety Requirements. Offered by Peace Safety & Environmental Training partnered with The Safety Training Center (Red Deer, Alberta).

Hours in Class: 8

Certification: 3 years


WHMIS ~ Workplace Hazardous Materials

This course provides individuals with the practical application of WHMIS regulations in the workplace. Upon successful completion individuals will receive certification in non-site specific requirements of WHMIS.

Hours in Class: 4

Certification: 3 years


Flagperson Training

This course provides vital information about employer and employee responsibilities, equipment, apparel and safe work practices and procedures as a flagperson. Upon successful completion individuals will receive an Alberta Construction Safety Association certificate.

Transportation of Dangerous Goods

This course is for individuals who are involved in the handling and transportation of dangerous goods.

Hours in Class: 5

Certification: 3 years


Confined Space Entry

Level 1 - This is a classroom study program, in which students will cover all legal and industrial aspects, to enable them to work safely in a confined space environment.

Hours in Class: 4

Certification: 3 years

Level 2 - Half-day classroom covers all aspects of working in a confined space environment. Half a day practical training using the confined space unit.

Hours in Class: 8; 4 hours in classroom, 4 hours practical training.

Certification: 3 years

Level 2 Extended - Half-day classroom instruction covering all aspects of working in a confined space environment. 1 ½ day spent practicing entry and basic rescue.

Hours in Class: 16 - 4 in classroom, 12 hours practical training.

Certification: 3 years
